Forza Horizon 6 Best Settings for PC: FPS and Visuals

On this page

What did Digital Foundry find?

Digital Foundry tested every quality setting at every level and published optimised settings for mainstream and high-end PCs. Its main conclusions, as reported by sites summarising the analysis, are below. For DF's exact value for each setting, use their article or video, since those tables were not reproduced in full elsewhere.

DF also praised the settings menu itself, which shows live previews and real-time CPU, GPU and VRAM use, so you can see each change's cost before leaving the menu.

  • Textures by VRAM: more than 12 GB for the top setting, 12 GB for Ultra, 8 GB for High.
  • RTGI (ray-traced global illumination) is the most expensive setting; High RTGI can cut frame rates by almost half compared with screen-space GI.
  • Mainstream PCs: High textures instead of Extreme, SSR High instead of heavier reflections, and standard GI instead of RTGI.

Which settings should you lower first?

Wccftech says its tweaks raise fps by up to 23%, with separate recommendations for setups with and without ray tracing.

Setting priorities (Digital Foundry summary, GTPlanet guide, Wccftech)
SettingSuggestionWhy
RT Global IlluminationMedium or OffLargest single cost; SSGI looks close at a fraction of it
Environment Texture QualityMatch your VRAM8 GB cards: High, which also forces Geometry Quality to High
Night ShadowsExtreme or Ultra; Off for about 10% more fpsNoticeable only at night
Shader QualityHigh, Extreme if your GPU allowsAffects draw distance, shading and texture depth
ReflectionsSSR High on mainstream PCsRT reflections cost more

Which upscaler and DLSS preset should you use?

  • NVIDIA RTX: DLAA at native resolution if you have headroom; DLSS Super Resolution if you need speed. NVIDIA's launch article lists DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution for all RTX cards and Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50.
  • RTX 50 owners can push DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation up to 6X through the NVIDIA app.
  • AMD RDNA 4: FSR 4. Other modern GPUs: FSR 3.1.5.
  • Intel Arc: XeSS.
  • RTX 30 cards do not get DLSS Frame Generation; FSR frame generation is the alternative.
  • Which DLSS preset (such as K or L) looks best at 1080p is a matter of testing; no source we checked publishes a firm recommendation.

How do you pick settings for your GPU?

Start from VRAM, because it decides the texture setting. An 8 GB card such as an RTX 5060 or 8 GB 5060 Ti belongs on High textures; a 12 GB card on Ultra; a 16 GB card such as an RTX 4080 Super or 16 GB 5060 Ti can use the top texture setting. Then decide on RTGI: leave it off or at Medium unless you have headroom, since it is the single biggest cost.

Playground's top Extreme RT tier calls for an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT with 32 GB RAM for 60fps at upscaled 4K, which is a useful ceiling for expectations. Full specs are on the system requirements page.

How do you fix FPS drops and visual glitches?

  • FPS drops over time: at launch, GTPlanet's guide reported a severe memory leak linked to Environment Texture and Geometry Quality and advised dropping both from Extreme to Ultra until a hotfix. Check the update log to see whether a later patch fixed it.
  • Shimmering trees and pixelated smoke: players report both, but no source we checked documents a confirmed fix. Trying DLAA or a higher-quality upscaler mode is a reasonable first test; a confirmed fix is still to be found.
  • Ultrawide 3440x1440: players ask whether it is supported; the Steam page does not list it explicitly, so test it in the display menu.
  • Overlays: Discord, Xbox Game Bar and other overlays are a common cause of PC display problems; turn them off while testing performance.

What about realistic graphics mods?

ReShade presets such as Photoreal and Brand New Game are popular for a more realistic look; one author notes a cost of 3 to 7 fps. They are unofficial. The mods page covers the risk, and the DLSS 5 page covers the experimental neural rendering mod.
