Forza Horizon 6 PC: Steam vs Xbox App, Deck and VR

Where can you buy Forza Horizon 6 on PC?

There are two PC storefronts. Steam sells it under app ID 2483190, and Microsoft sells it through the Xbox app and Microsoft Store, where it is also included with PC Game Pass. Both are published by Xbox Game Studios and developed by Playground Games.

Steam lists the release date as May 18, 2026, while most sources give May 19. The difference comes from time zones: unlocks happened at midnight local time, so players west of Europe saw the game appear on the 18th.

Should you buy it on Steam or the Xbox app?

Buy from the Microsoft Store if you also own an Xbox Series X|S: Play Anywhere covers both. Buy on Steam if you want it in your Steam library, plan to play on a Steam Deck, or prefer Steam's refund and family features. Progress carries across either way, because both versions save to your Microsoft account.

Even the Steam version talks to Xbox services. Sportskeeda notes that it still connects through the Xbox app and Gaming Services on Windows, which is why the Invalid Gaming Services Detected error can hit Steam players too.

What PC do you need?

The Steam store lists a minimum of an Intel Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 1600, 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1650, RX 6500 XT or Arc A380. The recommended tier asks for a Core i5-12400F or Ryzen 5 5600X with an RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT or Arc A580. Both need Windows 10 22H2 or later, DirectX 12 and 167 GB on an SSD.

Which upscalers and frame generation does the PC version support?

• NVIDIA: DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution on all RTX cards, DLSS Frame Generation on RTX 40 and newer, and DLSS Multi Frame Generation on RTX 50, per NVIDIA's launch article. DLAA and Reflex are also listed.
• AMD: FSR 4 on RDNA 4 cards, FSR 3 on others, per Playground's PC FAQ as summarised by Wccftech.
• Intel: XeSS 2.1.
• DLSS 5 is not officially supported. It only runs through unofficial mods; see the DLSS 5 page before trying it.

Does Forza Horizon 6 work on Steam Deck?

Yes. Forza Support's Steam Deck and SteamOS FAQ says the game is Verified on Steam Deck when bought through Steam and played on default settings. Valve's rating confirms that the default controller layout and graphics settings work and that in-game text is legible.

The first launch needs an internet connection, and Steam Deck HQ reports offline play works afterwards. Forza Horizon 5 only ever reached a Playable rating, so this is an improvement. Forza recommends updating SteamOS before your first session.

Does Forza Horizon 6 support VR?

No official VR mode exists. Playground Games has not announced VR support, and the Steam store does not list VR among the game's features. Any VR setup you see in videos relies on third-party injectors, which are unsupported and may conflict with the game's online checks.

Saves, mods and other PC-only questions

• Save files live in different folders for Steam and the Xbox app, and they are not interchangeable. See the save file location guide.
• Mods exist on Nexus Mods, but modifying game files is against Forza's rules. The mods page separates low-risk visual tweaks from ban-risk tools.

Which languages does the PC version include?

Steam lists 23 languages. Ten have full audio: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (Latin America). The other 13, including French, Polish, Russian and Turkish, have interface and subtitle support only.
