Which Xbox consoles can run Forza Horizon 6?
Forza Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026 for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, alongside PC. Premium Edition owners could start on May 15. Playground Games built it for current-generation hardware only, which means Xbox One and Xbox One X do not get a native version the way they did with Forza Horizon 5.
The current Xbox build is version 3.461.691.0, released with the Series 6 Horizon Meets update on October 5, 2026. Updates arrive on Xbox, the Xbox app on PC and Steam on the same day; see the Forza Horizon 6 update tracker for what changed.
What resolution and frame rate does it run at on Series X and Series S?
Both consoles give you a Quality mode and a Performance mode. Pure Xbox and Traxion report the same official figures, and Digital Foundry's testing found the Performance modes held 60fps without a recorded dip, using dynamic resolution to get there.
There is no 120fps mode on either console. If you want frame rates above 60, PC is the only option; see the Forza Horizon 6 PC page.
| Console | Quality mode | Performance mode |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X | Native 4K, 30fps | Dynamic 4K, 60fps |
| Xbox Series S | Up to 1440p, 30fps (dynamic) | 1080p, 60fps (dynamic) |
Is Series S worth playing it on?
Pure Xbox's side-by-side comparison shows the Series S Performance mode looking softer and less detailed than Quality mode, but it holds 60fps. For a racing game where input response matters, most coverage recommends Performance mode on Series S.
One fan site claims the Series S hits 1440p at 60fps in Performance mode. That contradicts Playground's own figures and every outlet listed here, so 1080p60 is the number to trust.
Storage is the other Series S pressure point. Steam lists a 167 GB requirement for the PC version, and the Xbox install is also large, so check your free space before downloading.
Can you play Forza Horizon 6 on Xbox One?
Only through the cloud. With Game Pass Ultimate, Xbox Cloud Gaming runs the game on Microsoft's servers and streams it to your Xbox One, so the console's age does not limit performance. Allthings.how notes that the cloud version supports cloud saves, cross-play and cross-save, with streams of up to 1440p at 60fps.
Because the game runs remotely, your internet connection decides how it plays. Players searching for low-bandwidth warnings are usually hitting the stream's quality limit, not a console problem: a wired connection or a 5 GHz Wi-Fi band is the usual fix.
An Operation Sports article warns about Xbox One overheating and lower frame rates. That is wrong for streaming, because the console is only decoding video.
Which cloud services carry Forza Horizon 6?
Whether the cheaper Game Pass tiers can stream the game if you own it is still to be confirmed with Microsoft, so check the Game Pass page before subscribing.
| Service | Do you need to own the game? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | No, included with Game Pass Ultimate | Up to 1440p at 60fps |
| GeForce NOW | Yes | Listed with higher stream quality tiers |
| Boosteroid | Yes | Listed with higher stream quality tiers |
Is it on Game Pass for Xbox?
Yes. The Standard Edition has been included with Game Pass Ultimate since launch day. Game Pass gives access, not ownership, and it does not include the Car Pass, VIP or expansions. For those you need the Premium Upgrade; the Forza Horizon 6 Game Pass guide explains what each tier covers.
Does an Xbox purchase include the PC version?
Yes, if you buy it digitally from the Xbox or Microsoft Store. Windows Central reports that those purchases include Xbox Play Anywhere, so one copy covers Xbox consoles and the Xbox app on PC with shared progress.
A Steam purchase is different: it does not include the Xbox version, although Steam progress still syncs through cross-save once you link a Microsoft account. The crossplay and cross-save page covers the linking step.
Audio, headsets and other Xbox questions
- Controller settings: assists, shifting and deadzones are covered on the Forza Horizon 6 controller page.
- Wheels: Xbox-compatible wheels such as the Logitech G920 and G923 use the same settings menu as PC; see the wheel settings guide.
- PS5 players joining in January 2027 can race with Xbox players, because crossplay covers every platform.
Series X or Series S: which mode should you pick?
On Series X, Quality mode gives native 4K but at 30fps, which suits Photo Mode and cruising. Performance mode keeps 60fps with dynamic 4K, which suits racing, drifting and Danger Sign jumps where timing matters. You can switch at any time in the settings menu.
On Series S, the gap is larger: 1440p30 against 1080p60. Coverage of Digital Foundry's tests describes the 60fps mode as locked, so it is the safer default for online races and time-attack laps.
