FAQ
Forza Horizon 6 Crossplay and Cross-Save Explained
On this page
Is Forza Horizon 6 cross-platform?
Yes. Windows Central reports that this is the first Forza Horizon game with full crossplay and full cross-save across all of its platforms. Forza Horizon 5 only shared saves between Xbox consoles and the Xbox app on PC; Steam was left out.
Playground's October 8, 2026 announcement extends the same support to PS5: the PS5 version will support cross-platform play and cross-save with the Xbox and Steam versions, and all user-generated content is cross-platform.
| Platform | Crossplay | Cross-save | Account needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Yes | Yes | Microsoft account |
| Xbox app / Microsoft Store (PC) | Yes | Yes | Microsoft account |
| Steam (PC, Steam Deck) | Yes | Yes | Steam account linked to a Microsoft account |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Yes | Yes | Microsoft account |
| PS5 (from January 26, 2027) | Yes | Yes | Account linking step still to be confirmed |
How do you link Steam to your Xbox account?
Steam's store page states that a Microsoft account is required for cross-platform play. When you first launch the Steam version, the game asks you to sign in with or create a Microsoft account. Once linked, your cars, credits, progress and customisations sync with the Xbox versions.
Use the same Microsoft account everywhere. Cross-save is tied to the account, so signing in with a different one starts a different save.
- Launch Forza Horizon 6 on Steam and follow the Microsoft account sign-in prompt.
- Sign in with the account you use on Xbox or the Xbox app.
- Let the game finish syncing before starting a race; your Xbox progress should appear.
- On PS5 in January, follow the account prompt Playground provides; the exact PS5 linking step has not been detailed yet.
What carries over between platforms?
- Progress, garage, credits and customisation: yes, through cross-save on the same Microsoft account.
- Liveries, tunes, EventLab events and photos shared through the game: yes, user-generated content is cross-platform.
- Achievements: each platform has its own system. Steam has Steam achievements; Xbox and the Xbox app use Xbox achievements.
- The game licence: no. Cross-save moves progress, not ownership. You need a copy on each platform; only the Xbox and Microsoft Store versions share a licence through Play Anywhere.
- DLC: owning DLC on one store does not unlock it on another; buy it on the platform where you play.
Can you turn crossplay off?
Earlier Horizon games let you disable crossplay in the settings, and fan guides expect the same here, but we have not found an official statement describing the FH6 option. Check Settings, then Online, in your own game before relying on it.
Does Game Pass block crossplay with Steam?
Beebom reported that crossplay with Steam is unavailable with the day-one Game Pass version. No other outlet repeats that, and Playground's own description covers crossplay across Xbox, PC, Steam and PS5, so treat the Beebom claim as unconfirmed. If you cannot see Steam friends, check that both of you are signed in to Microsoft accounts and that privacy settings allow cross-network play.
Which modes are cross-platform?
Forza.net's starting guide says all multiplayer modes unlock after the Tokyo race in the prologue, including Spec Racing, The Eliminator, Touge Showdown and Hide & Seek. Car Meets let you walk around other players' cars, download their tunes or buy a stock copy of the car, and Horizon CoLab lets groups build EventLab events together.
Because these all run on the same online service, they are shared across platforms. Visiting another player's Estate works the same way: Forza.net notes that anything you build on your Estate is permanent and visitable by friends.
What PS5 players should know
PS5 owners join a community that passed 6 million players in launch week. Playground has confirmed cross-save between PS5, Xbox and Steam, but has not yet shown the PS5 sign-in flow. The Forza Horizon 6 PS5 page covers dates, editions and modes, and the save file guide explains how cloud saves and local copies relate on PC.
