Forza Horizon 6 Release Date: Every Platform and Unlock

When did Forza Horizon 6 come out?

Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios released Forza Horizon 6 on May 19, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. Premium Edition owners started four days earlier, on May 15. The game is set in Japan, with Tokyo City as its main urban area.

The PS5 version is the only platform still to come. It was first promised for later in 2026 and then confirmed for January 26, 2027 in Playground's October 8 announcement. Everything about that version is on the Forza Horizon 6 PS5 page.

What time did Forza Horizon 6 unlock?

There was no single worldwide unlock. Microsoft's stores opened the game at midnight local time in each region. Steam's store page lists May 18, 2026 rather than May 19, which most coverage attributes to time-zone differences in how the date is displayed.

Game Rant reports the same approach for PS5, with Premium and Standard unlocking at 12:01 a.m. local time on their respective dates.

How did early access work?

Early access was a Premium Edition perk, and the Premium Upgrade gave Game Pass members the same head start. On Steam, SteamDB recorded just over 172,000 concurrent players on the first day of early access, before the full launch pushed the peak past 270,000 on May 19.

One week after early access opened, Playground said more than 6 million people had played across Xbox, PC, Game Pass and Steam. The Forza Horizon 6 player count page tracks how those numbers have changed since.

Why is the PS5 version releasing eight months later?

Playground has not given a reason. Microsoft announced at the start that PS5 would follow after launch, and in September the studio still said later this year. The January 2027 date leaked through billbil-kun and was confirmed a day later. It also coincides with Expansion 1, which launches on January 21 on every platform.

Panic Button is handling the PS5 port in collaboration with Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios, and the PS5 version will support crossplay and cross-save with Xbox and Steam.

What has been released since launch?

Forza Horizon 6 runs on monthly series. Each series lasts about four weeks of Festival Playlist content, with a new season starting every Thursday at 14:30 UTC. Series 1 was Welcome to Japan, Series 5 was British Automotive and the current Series 6 is Horizon Meets, a 7-Eleven tie-in running from October 8 to November 5, 2026.

Forza.net says the next update is themed around City Life and adds two permanent Tokyo race routes and three new-to-Horizon playlist cars. A release date for it has not been announced. Patch-by-patch details are on the update page.

When do the expansions come out?

Expansion 1 arrives on January 21, 2027 for Xbox, PC and PS5 Premium owners; other PS5 owners can play it from January 26 when their game unlocks. Expansion 2 is confirmed for a later date. Both are included in the Premium Edition, the Premium Upgrade and the Expansions Bundle, and the first can also be bought on its own. Playground has not revealed the setting or contents of either. The DLC page lists every paid add-on.
