Is the Japan map better than Mexico?

Red Bull argues that Mexico was visually impressive but felt empty in places, and that Japan prioritises density, variety and verticality over raw size: neon city streets, rice fields, temples, coastal highways and snowy peaks. Measured north to south, Stevivor puts Japan at roughly 20.5 miles; Game.wiki compares about 18 miles across with roughly 14 for Mexico. Tokyo City is the largest urban area in Horizon history.

A fog-of-war map, which reveals roads as you drive them, is new, and some mountain areas keep snow all year. The map guide covers the regions.

Does it drive differently?

Red Bull reports that cars now behave differently according to weight, balance and surface grip, after many FH5 players felt the same tune worked on everything. FH5's meta was dominated by high-horsepower AWD builds; FH6 rebalanced vehicle classes and added a new R class for track-focused race cars. Leaderboard data now favours light, agile cars, as the best car guide shows.

Wheel support was reportedly rebuilt, which matters if you play on a wheel; see the Logitech settings guide.

What is new in Forza Horizon 6?

  • Discover Japan: a relaxed exploration track with seven stamps from tourist spots, photos and deliveries, which unlocks houses and Barn Finds.
  • Car Meets: get out of your car, look at other players' builds, download their tunes or buy a stock copy.
  • Horizon Rush: replayable timed obstacle courses; see the Horizon Rush guide.
  • The Estate: a buildable valley with garages, showrooms and even racetracks.
  • Horizon CoLab: groups design EventLab events together in real time.
  • Triton Acoustics: a new audio system that changes how sound behaves in tunnels and city streets. The radio line-up is on the soundtrack page.
  • Window liveries, more body kits and a larger wheel collection.
  • AutoDrive cinematic mode that hides the interface.

What stayed the same?

The core loop: Horizon Festival wristbands, a weekly Festival Playlist, Treasure Cars and Barn Finds, Wheelspins and the Autoshow. Critics noted that the event structure feels familiar and the gameplay has not changed in a major way, which is the main reservation in otherwise very positive reviews; see the review roundup.

Should you move from FH5 to FH6?

Progress does not carry over: FH6 is a new game with its own save. If you want a new map, a deeper city and modern crossplay, the reviews and player numbers favour FH6. If you mainly want more of FH5's large roster today, note that FH5 grew to over 900 cars over its lifetime, while FH6 is still building toward that with weekly Car Pass and playlist additions. The car list tracks FH6's count.
